Star Wars: The Force Awakens is an American sci-fi/fantasy film, directed by J. J. Abrams, is based on characters created by George Lucas and was released on 18 December 2015.

It is the first instalment in the sequel trilogy, the seventh in the overall Star Wars film series and is set 30 years after the events of Return of the Jedi. It focuses on Rey (Daisy Ridley), Finn (John Boyega) and Poe Dameron's (Oscar Isaac) journey to find the infamous Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) and fighting for the Resistance against the First Order. Other main characters throughout the film include; Han Solo (Harrison Ford), General Leia Organa (Carrie Fisher), Adam Driver (Kylo Ren), Maz Kanata (Lupita Nyong'o), Supreme Leader Snoke (Andy Serkis), General Hux (Domhnall Gleeson), C-3PO (Anthony Daniels) and Chewbacca (Peter Mayhew).
