Sophie Ellis-Bextor is a British singer, songwriter and model. She was born on 10 April 1979 in Hounslow, Middlesex, England.

She began her career in music through the indie band Theaudience in 1997, but she saw the most success in 2000 onwards, when she embarked on a solo career and was the featured vocalist on Spiller's track, Groovejet (If This Ain't Love), topping the charts at number one. She then released her debut album, Read My Lips, in 2001 hitting number two in the charts and four top twenty hit singles, which included her rework of Cher's song, Take Me Home and the biggest hit of her career, Murder on the Dancefloor, both entering number two in the UK charts.
