Rowan Atkinson is a British actor, comedian and screenwriter. He was born on 6 January 1955 in County Durham, England.

He began his career path in theatre and radio, with a comedy show for BBC Radio 3, The Atkinson People in 1979. He made his big breakthrough on the comedy sketch show, Not the Nine O’Clock News (1979-82) and has since gone on to appear and star in many television and film roles throughout his career. His most prominent roles have been as Blackadder in four separate series (1982-83 / 1986 / 1987 / 1989), as Mr. Bean in a variety of formats, on film, television series (1990-95) and animated series (2002-15), as the titular character in the film, Johnny English (2003) and its sequel Reborn (2011) and as the titular character in crime drama Maigret (2016-).
