Rod Laver is an Australian former professional tennis player. He was born on 9 August 1938 in Rockhampton, Queensland, Australia.

He is thought of as one of the greatest professional tennis players in history, ranking World number one between 1964-70. He has won 200 singles titles, which is the most in tennis history and he has competed in and won Grand Slam titles in the Australian Open, French Open, US Open and Wimbledon during the 60s.

Awards and Achievements:

  • ABC Sportsman of the Year (1969)

  • Received an MBE for his service to tennis (1970)

  • Inducted in the International Tennis Hall of Fame (1981)

  • Australian Sports Medal (2000)
