Eric Morecambe (born, John Eric Bartholomew, on 14 May 1926 in Lancashire, England and passed away 28 May 1984 in Gloucestershire, England, aged 58) and Ernie Wise (born, Ernest Wiseman, on 27 November 1925 in Yorkshire, England and passed away on 21 March 1999, aged 73) are a British comedy duo, performing on various media outlets, including variety and television.
They first met in 1941 at the Nottingham Empire Theatre and after a brief separation, due to war service, they happened to meet again in 1946 during a variety performance at the Swansea Empire Theatre. They are still to this day, the most iconic British duo, loved and respected by millions of their viewers. They made the switch to radio in 1954 with Running Wild, and after a bad review was spurred on to do better in their future projects. Since then they have written and starred on television, starting off with the BBC, in their own variety shows, featuring singing, dancing and many memorable sketches over the years.
