Melissa Benoist is an American actress and singer. She was born on 4 October 1988 in Houston, Texas, USA.

She began her acting career in 2000, mainly working in theatre productions like The Sound of Music, Footloose and Evita. She made her film debut in 2008 as Laurel in the American film Tennessee and continued working in minor roles for various television series, and she became widely known when she took the role of Marley Rose in the popular American musical television series, Glee (2012-14). This eventually lead to a prominent role as Kara Zor-El/Supergirl in the DC inspired superhero television series, Supergirl, which she also has guest appeared as in The Flash (2016), Arrow (2016) and Legends of Tomorrow (2016).
