Kevin Whately is a British actor. He was born on 6 February 1951 in Hexham, Northumberland, England.

He has appeared/starred in many television series and TV movies including Coronation Street (1981) Peak Practice (1993-95) and The English Patient (1996), but it was his roles as Neville Hope in the British sitcom Auf Wiedersehen, Pet (1983-2004) and Detective Sergeant Lewis in the crime drama Inspector Morse (1987-2000), which he later reprised in the spin-off series, Lewis (2006-15) that had made him a household name in the UK.
