James Lee Duncan Carragher (born 28 january 1978) is an english footballer who plays as a central defender for premier league side liverpool. A one-club man, he has been liverpool's vice-captain since 2003, and is one of the club's longest-serving players. He made his 700th appearance for liverpool in all competitions on 2 august 2012, placing him second behind ian callaghan on the club's all-time appearance list. Carragher also holds the record for the most appearances in european competition for liverpool. On 7 february 2013, announced his intention to retire from football at the end of the 2012-13 season.
