J. K. Rowling is a British author and philanthropist. She was born on 31 July 1965 in Yate, Gloucestershire, England.

She is best known for writing the magical/fantasy Harry Potter series of books, which became a huge success in film also. Her first novel was Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (1997) and she would release a further 6 books in the series (1998-2007). She continued her success with the fantasy novels with Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (2001), another book made to film, along with other Harry Potter related works throughout the early 2000s and late 2010s. She began another series of books later in her career, the crime fiction series, Cormoran Strike, which began with The Cuckoo's Calling (2013), with a further 3 books (2014-18), all written under the pseudonym, Robert Galbraith. She has picked up many awards throughout her career, including; Author of the Year (2000) and Outstanding Achievement (2008).
