Ian Holm is a British actor. He was born on 12 September 1931 in Goodmayes, Essex, England.

He made his television debut as Granillo in ITV Play of the Week (1957) and went on to appear and star in many television and film projects throughout his career. He is best known for his roles as Ash in Alien (1979), Sam Mussabini in Chariots of Fire (1981), Father Vito Cornelius in The Fifth Element (1997) and Bilbo Baggins in the following films; LotR: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001), The Return of the King (2003), and Old Bilbo in The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (2012) and The Battle of the Five Armies (2014). He has also worked in theatre productions, including The Homecoming and King Lear. Some of his other acting work includes:-
