Henry Cooper was a British professional boxer. He was born on 3 May 1934 in London, England and passed away on 1 May 2011 in Limpsfield, Surrey, England, aged 76.
He was regarded as one of the most popular athletes in Britain, had a powerful left hook and was widely known for taking down a young Muhammad Ali. He has faced many outstanding boxers of his time, including, Joe Erskine, Zora Folley and Roy Harris, but his infamous bouts with Ali (whom he faced twice) were what captured all-round attention. He fought in 55 contests, won 40 bouts (27 knockouts) and has held the British, European and Commonwealth heavyweight titles. Once he retired from competitive action, he appeared on television, including the BBC quiz show, A Question of Sport.
