Eric Cantona is a former French international football player and actor. He was born on 24 May 1966 in Marseille, France.
He began his career path in football, playing for French team, SO Les Caillols (1980-81) and began playing professionally for French football club, AJ Auxerre (1983-88), appearing in 82 games and scoring 23 goals. He had the most success with British football club, Manchester United (1992-97), appearing in 143 games and scoring 64 goals. He made a huge name for himself during his time with the club, and is still considered by fans of the team, as one of Manchester United’s greatest ever players and even nicknamed him “King Eric”. He helped the team to many victories, including 4 Premier League titles (1992-93 / 1993-94 / 1995-96 / 1996-97), 2 FA Cup trophies (1993-94 / 1995-96) and 3 Charity Shields (1993 / 1994 / 1996). Since retiring from football, he got into acting, making his debut in the French film, Happiness Is In The Field (1995) and went on to feature in many French films throughout his acting career. He is best known for his roles as Monsieur de Foix in Elizabeth (1998), as himself in Looking for Eric (2009) and as Corsican in The Salvation (2014).
