Bill Beaumont is a British retired rugby player. He was born on 9 March 1952 in Chorley, Lancashire, England.
He began his professional career in 1969 at the age of 17 with Fylde Rugby Club (1969-82) and was invited to be play 15 times for the Barbarian F.C. rugby team, a group that only takes on players with integrity on and off the pitch. He played for the England national rugby team (1975-82), earning 34 caps, was part of the 1980 team to win a Grand Slam and was captain for the squad 21 times. Unfortunately, he sustained many concussions and in 1982 had to retire from active play, but went on to do many things including becoming captain of the quiz show, A Question of Sport for 14 years and is currently Chairman of World Rugby and the Rugby Football Union and Vice-chairman of the International Rugby Board.
