  • Alan Durban autograph (Derby County; Wales)

Alan Durban is a former Welsh footballer and manager. He was born 7th July 1941 in Bridgend, Glamorgan, Wales.

He played for a few teams during his run in 1959-1978, but made his most appearances at Derby County, scoring 93 goals whilst with the club. Durban started of using the Inside forward position on the pitch, but changed to an attacking midfield position. He then earned the role of Captain when Derby County came up against his previous team, Cardiff City, winning 5-1. He left the team in 1973 to become a player/assistant manager for Shrewsbury Town. He officially retired from physically playing the sport in January 1976, and then moved on the managerial duties with Stoke City.

Cardiff City, Shrewsbury Town and Wales were other clubs he played for during his active career. When he had become a manager, he was mainly involved with teams such as, Shrewsbury Town, Stoke City, Sunderland and Cardiff City. His accomplishments throughout his career include, as player: Cardiff City - Football League Second Division runner-up (1959-60); Derby County - Football League First Division champions (1971-72); Football League Second Division champions (1968-69); as manager: Shrewsbury Town - Football League Fourth Division runner-up (1974-75); Stoke City - Football League Second Division third-place promotion (1978-79); PFA Team of the Year (1973-74), (1974-75)
