A.P. McCoy is a Northern Irish retired horse racing jockey. He was born on 4 May 1974 in Moneyglass, County Antrim, Northern Ireland.

He started his racing career in 1992 at the age of 17 and won the race on the horse, Legal Steps. During his very successful 23 year career, he had seen many huge wins including, the Cheltenham Gold Cup, Champion Hurdle, Queen Mother Champion Chase, King George VI Chase and the 2010 Grand National. He has accomplished many achievements in his career including winning the Champion Jockey title a record 20 consecutive times, from 1995/96 season to 2014/15 seasons. He retired in 2015 after competing in the Bet365 Gold Cup race.

  • Jockey of the Year (1997)

  • Jump Ride of the Year (2009)

  • BBC Sports Personality of the Year (2010)

  • BBC Sports Personality of the Year Lifetime Achievement Award (2015)

  • Received a knighthood for services to horse racing (2016)
