Willie John McBride is an Irish retired professional rugby player. He was born on 6 June 1940 in Toomebridge, County Antrim, Northern Ireland.
He began playing for the Ireland national team in 1962, earning 63 caps and acting as captain for eleven games. He also toured with the British and Irish Lions five times (1962 / 1966 / 1968 / 1971 / 1974) and earned 17 caps. Once he retired from the sport in 1975, he began coaching the Ireland team and managed the Lions in 1983 on their tour to New Zealand.
