Sir Lenny Henry is a British comedian, actor and television presenter. He was born on 29 August 1958 in Dudley, Worcestershire, England.
He began his career in television on the talent show, New Faces (1975), and won with his impression of Stevie Wonder and then he would take on the role of Sonny Foster in the comedy series, The Fosters (1976-77). He co-presented the children's series, Tiswas (1978-81) and would join The Comic Strip thereafter, where he would be inspired to try out the stand-up comedy scene, coming up with various characters that would both mock and celebrate black British culture, including his version of news presenter, Trevor McDonald (whom he dubbed Trevor MacDoughnut). He had his own comedy skit show, The Lenny Henry Show, airing on the BBC in 1984. Along with Richard Curtis, he founded the charity show, Comic Relief in 1985 where he was one of the hosts. He's even appeared in film, such as the Shrunken Head in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004). He has performed on the stage during the late 2000s, as the title character in Othello (2009) at the Northern Broadsides/West Yorkshire Playhouse and Trafalgar Studios in London.
