John Wayne was an American actor. He was born, Marion Robert Morrison, on 26 May 1907 in Iowa, USA and passed away on 11 June 1979 in Los Angeles, California, USA, aged 72.
He made his film acting debut as an extra in Brown of Harvard (1926) and has appeared and starred in many minor and major film and television projects. He is also referred to as 'Duke', which a fireman had initially given him ('Little Duke') as a child when he would be seen often with his dog (also named Duke). His first big breakthrough was as Breck Coleman in The Big Trail (1930) and his other major roles are as Ethan Edwards in The Searchers (1956), Sheriff John T. Chance in Rio Bravo (1959) and as Rooster Cogburn in True Grit (1969). Some of his other acting work includes:-
