Frankie Howerd was a British comedian and actor. He was born on 6 March 1917 in North Yorkshire, England and passed away on 19 April 1992 in London, England, aged 75.
He made his film debut as Percy Lamb in The Runaway Bus (1954) and has appeared and starred in many formats on stage, television and film throughout his career. His most prominent roles have been as Francis Bigger in Carry On Doctor (1967), Professor Tinkle in Carry On Up The Jungle (1970) and as Lurcio in both the television and film versions of Up Pompeii (1969-70 / 1971). He also had his own television shows, including The Frankie Howerd Show (1964-66), did stand-up comedy on variety shows, radio shows, wrote an autobiography, On the Way I Lost It (1976) and recorded songs, including the parody of the song Je t’aime along with June Whitfield (1971).
