Buzz Aldrin is an American engineer and former astronaut. He was born on 20 January 1930 in Glen Ridge, New Jersey, USA.
He was a major part of history when he joined the mission to pilot the Apollo 11, which landed on the moon on 21 July 1969 and was the second person to walk on its surface after fellow astronaut Neil Armstrong. He retired in 1972 and went on to chronicle his life story in the autobiographies, Return to Earth (1973) and Magnificent Desolation (2009). He has since took his hand to penning science fiction novels alongside John Barnes.
